My experience of Casting Nets was nothing short of incredible. I was first introduced to the camp by my youth minister, and it seemed like an amazing opportunity. Going into the camp, I was extremely excited, but also very nervous. I worried that I wouldn’t be “Catholic” enough for this camp and that everyone would be more accomplished and devout in their faith. However, when I got there, I was surprised and relieved to find that the other teens going were like me; not perfect, but on fire for the Lord…
The next week was hard to describe. The days were slow, but the week flew past all of us as we were taught how to evangelize in practical ways. We also grew together. It didn’t matter that we all had just met each other, by the end of the week we had become a family. I’ll never forget the card games I played with the other girls in our hallway, the boys’ impromptu karaoke on the stairwell, or our time together in Adoration every night. The opportunities to experience different forms of prayer everyday was also something I will cherish. The week at Benedictine was a lifesaver for my spiritual life. Before going I was trying to be intentional with my prayer, but it was often sporadic. However, spending that week praying every day, showed me that I was capable and that I could do it! Praise God I have done just that since I returned, and my prayer time has become the most important part of my day. I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for me as I devout myself to him and his mission. I am so thankful to all the speakers, Mr. Chris Stewart, and Mr. Tony Brandt for giving me the grace-filled week that inspired me and all my friends to live out our faith boldly and do the Lord’s work.
